As we close a month that’s all about New Year’s Resolutions and goals, we start a month about love. Let’s dive into the important topic of self-love! 💘
While New Year’s Resolutions can be helpful, around this time, we hear a lot of negative body talk and body bashing. It’s all about how we can get the skinniest the fastest and burn body fat by going super hard in the gym and tracking calories.
While there is nothing wrong with wanting to be healthier, we think that this New Year pressure can cause some negative self-talk and body image, especially with women. Here are our best tips to invoke more self-love into your life in the midst of negative diet culture talk in our everyday media.
Create a habit of daily self-love affirmations. There are tons of free YouTube videos with self-love affirmations that you can listen to while getting ready, cooking, walking, etc. Repeating self-love affirmations helps your subconscious start to believe these affirmations and have more of a positive outlook on yourself.
Have a journal practice. Journaling consistently about your life, what you’re grateful for and what you love about yourself can help you have a better outlook on yourself and your life. Try different journal prompts about the things you love most about yourself.
Stop comparing yourself to others. Comparison is the thief of joy. If you’re always going to be comparing yourself, you’ll never be happy. Remember that you are unique and perfect as you are, and you should be proud of what makes you – YOU!
Don’t concern yourself with other’s opinions. If you care about what other people think or try to live up to their expectations, you’ll never be fully happy. Forget what society thinks of you and remove any perceptions of how a human being should look. Remember, our media is extremely provocative nowadays and there are always trends that come and go.
Use the unfollow button. Unfollow people on social media who make you feel bad about yourself. If you don’t want to unfollow, mute their content. Social media personalities are curated and don’t always show the full truth about a person – remember that.
Know that you are valuable. Remind yourself that your value does not lie in your looks. You are far more than how you look – you are your values, personality, kindness and strength! Don’t let the internal sexism make you feel like your looks sum you up as a person.
Put yourself first and set boundaries. Have you heard the phase you can’t pour from an empty cup? Also, think of the plane reference: you have to put your own mask on first before you can help others. Staying committed and true to yourself can help your emotional well-being. Set boundaries with people who don’t respect you or your time and set time aside for more self-care.
Be your own best friend. Would you ever speak to a friend the way you speak to yourself? If not, you need to start being your own best friend. Monitor your thoughts and make sure you only say things to yourself that you would say to your very best friend on earth.
Support your health. Be kind to yourself and use supplements that support your health goals, such as our delicious drinkable, Boon Broth! 😋
